Trump Says G7 Exit Wasn’t to Broker Israel‑Iran Ceasefire: “Much Bigger… Stay Tuned”

At the G7 summit in Canada on June 16, President Donald Trump abruptly packed up and returned to Washington. French President Emmanuel Macron had speculated that Trump left to push for an Israel‑Iran ceasefire, stirring diplomatic buzz. But Trump, in a Truth Social post, shot back:

“Wrong! …It certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. …Stay Tuned!”

Macron, in turn, had said that the U.S. was already exploring ceasefire options as Israel‑Iran clashes intensified—though Trump made clear it wasn’t the priority.

What prompted Trump’s sudden G7 exit?

According to his press team, Trump cut his summit short because of escalating tensions in the Middle East. “What’s going on in the Middle East” was cited as the primary reason, rather than any particular diplomatic mission.

Upon stepping onto Air Force One, he instructed officials in Washington to prepare for national‑security follow‑up, suggesting urgent developments awaited.

The brewing storm: Israel‑Iran hostilities escalate

Recent days have seen Israel conducting strikes across Iran—including targeting military facilities and state TV in Tehran—prompting extensive drone and missile retaliation from Iran. Civilian areas in both nations have been hit, with hundreds of casualties reported on each side.

Trump has taken steps to urge Tehran’s residents to evacuate, warning that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon.”

What could the “much bigger” thing be?

That’s the billion‑dollar question. U.S. and Israeli officials suggest it could be a major policy move—possibly a new nuclear‑related offer to Iran or a shift toward more active U.S. engagement in the region. But details remain deliberately vague.

Critics—including commentators like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene—warn against deeper U.S. entanglement.
